Mycota is a non-profit 501c3 organization. Mycota Lab is currently working towards a comprehensive biodiversity survey of all macrofungi that are found across North America. Proceeds generated by the lab fund
free sequencing opportunities to advance the knowledge of fungi across North America, particularly progress towards understanding the biodiversity of fungi of the central Midwest, and to fund technological infrastructure that can help to expedite DNA-based mycofloristic projects.
Our lab has extensive experience with a variety molecular methods that are a prerequisite to obtaining DNA sequences of fungi. This includes DNA extraction, DNA amplification, and sequencing preparation. We have a particular focus on methods to obtain successful Sanger sequencing of macrofungi and next-generation sequencing/metabarcoding of soil fungi. We currently accept new projects from researchers, academics, citizen scientists, non-profit organizations, and commercial clients for molecular services.

Goal: To promote the science of mycology and the study of fungi through education and scientific research.
